so sweet and so ancient

February 16, 2010

Tuesday afternoon: cloudy with a hint of blue, chilly just above freezing, gray snow everywhere, last weekend firmly in the past, next weekend barely a thought, February, the most unkind of all months nowhere near its anticipated end.

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast.

Forgive me

so sweet
and so cold.

The XX is a really great band.

The pepper below is an ancient sweet pepper.  I’ve never seen one, nor heard of it before.  I probably have not been paying enough attention.  Here’s an excellent photo.

Awesome choice for a poem…and I like what the bottom shelf in your refrigerator is holding! The Maya A quote made me smile. I’ve been a fan for a long time and finally was able to see her speak a few years ago and was not let down in the least. Quite a powerful and humble lady with tons of energy even in her 80’s.
