Today is a slow Saturday, and it’s nice.  I picked up a copy of The Omniovore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan yesterday and am looking forward to starting that.  Ever since I moved in August, my record player has been sitting on top of a crate of records, unplugged.  I think today is the day to plug it back in.  Enjoy your night, whether it finds out out on the town or down on the couch.

A good song for a cold, calm day.

(the first photo below is blurry, and I couldn’t help but post it)

Time stands still best in moments that look suspiciously like ordinary life.

Nos. 340: 1/28/2010

Why did he love storms, what was the meaning of his excitement
when the door sprang open and the rain wind fled rudely up the
stairs, why had the simple task of shutting the windows of an old
house seemed fitting and urgent, why did the first watery notes of
a storm wind have for him the unmistakable sound of good news,
cheer, glad tidings?

– John Cheever, The Swimmer
